Photography settled this a century ago. A print develops under safelight with the timer set to ring: the eyes belong to the tray, the timing is built to be heard rather than read, and nobody stops mid-print to study a dial. Film goes onto its reel the same way, by touch, in full darkness.

Intertakt runs HIIT, Tabata and rounds on that arrangement:

every interval is announced out loud: countdown beeps and a clear voice over your own playlist, each on its own volume
the phone goes face-down from the first beep to the last: screen off, pocketed, working blind by design
