About
Platefolio is a free recipe manager that lets you read any recipe the way you want.
Most recipe apps store your recipes and show them one way. Platefolio has five display formats, and you can switch between them on any recipe:
- Traditional: a clean cookbook page
- Cook mode: one step at a time, with checkable ingredients and steps
- Notecard: a printable 4x6 recipe card
- Flowchart: a Cooking for Engineers style table that shows which ingredients feed which steps
- Rails: the same step graph laid out vertically so it fits a phone screen
Importing your recipes
- From a link: paste a URL and Platefolio pulls out the recipe, skipping the life story and the ads.
- From pasted text: drop in text from an email, a note or a message and Platefolio will parse out the recipe.
- From an AI assistant: send one ready-made prompt in your ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini chat, then paste the reply to save the recipe it wrote.
- From a photo: snap or upload a recipe card or screenshot. On-device OCR handles most of them, with a cloud OCR fallback for handwriting.
- By hand: type it in with a simple form.
Every import lands in an editable review form first, so nothing saves until you've checked it.
Staying organized
- Custom categories: create, rename and delete your own, then filter and sort by them
- Cookbooks: ordered, titled collections with covers and chapters
- Households: invite family to share one library, with up to five people on the paid plan
- Sharing: send a recipe or cookbook with a link
No ads, no clutter, no life story before the ingredients.
Who it's for: home cooks tired of scrolling past ads to find the ingredients, people with a pile of screenshots, bookmarks and handwritten family cards, and anyone who cooks from a phone with messy hands. It's also for fans of Cooking for Engineers who want that chart style on their own recipes.
Pricing: free for unlimited recipes, all five formats, and 25 imports. Head Chef is $12 a year for the whole household, with unlimited imports, photo storage and cookbooks.
